Can a Mirena IUC cause excess hair growth?
I had my Mirena inserted 3/08 and since then I have noticed some new hair growth (specifically on my arms). Is this normal or am I some kind of freak of nature? Also, is it possible that it will go away when it is removed?

- WHY DOES MERENA CAUSE FACIAL HAIR

I have heard before that a possible side affect of some hormonal BC is "unwanted facial hair" but I’ve been on the shot for awhile now and haven’t noticed anything like that. Since Mirena IS a hormonal form of birth control, I would not be surprised if it can cause the same possible side effects as any other hormonal BC. The doctors say that the amount of hormones in it is insignificant, but I have heard of many women who still suffer the negative side effects of other BC while having it in. So I’m sure that this is possible, call your doctor, do some research online and see what you think about having it removed.
What tha heck? Really? I go in this Thursday to have one inserted. May have to ask about that one. It probably is just a small side effect of the hormones on the Mirena but it may go away in time. Good luck.
I’ve had my mirena for about 7 months now and no odd hair growth yet! Talk to you dr. Just call in and ask to speak to a nurse and mention it to her/him, you don’t actually have to go into the office. She’ll be able to tell you if it’s a known side effect or what. I’m sure it will go away when it removed though since you won’t have the hormones *flowing* through your body.
